Moving on to our suggested viewing title of the week; this week, as mentioned, we’ve got two light hearted movies from the 1990s:

My Fellow Americans (1996) Trailer:

Available Formats: You can check out the DVD from the library or stream the movie from the usual online sources.

About The Movie: My Fellow Americans is a lighthearted film thatopens by introducing two political rivals Russell Kramer (Jack Lemmon) and Matt Douglas (James Garner). The two men run against each other for president twice; Kramer wins the first time and at the end of his term is defeated by Douglas who serves his term and is then defeated by Kramer’s former vice president William Haney (Dan Aykroyd).

When a bribery scandal involving Haney and a defense contractor threatens to become public, Haney and his advisers attempt to shift the blame onto the two former presidents. Before Kramer and Douglas can defend themselves, they become targets of an assassination attempt and are forced to flee for their lives.

The two longtime rivals reluctantly join forces and embark on a cross-country journey to uncover evidence that will clear their names and expose the corruption within the current administration. Along the way, their misadventures bring them into contact with ordinary Americans, giving them an unexpected opportunity to see how their presidential policies have affected the people they once governed.

So, the movie really is a road trip film following Kramer and Douglas as the try and get out of the mess they are in! The film also starts Lauren Bacall and Wilford Brimley

Dave (1993) Trailer

Available Formats: You can check out the DVD from the library or stream the movie from the usual online sources.

About The Movie: The film Dave is a light-hearted film, like My Fellow Americans. It stars Kevin Kline as Dave Kovic a man who runs a temp agency and also, by a fluke of fate, bears an uncanny resemblance to the current president of the United States – Bill Mitchell. Because of his resemblance to the president the White House hires him to occasionally impersonate the president at public events.

And then President Mitchell, who has been involved in an affair; has a stroke and his scheming chief of staff Bob Alexander (Frank Langella) asks Dave to impersonate the president while he recovers as a matter duty and doing what is best for the country – while really Alexander is scheming to expand his power – and Dave goes along with being instructed by Alexander for a little while and then decides to make his own decisions and do the presidential job as he sees fit much to Alexander’s chagrin (to say the least!)

In addition to Kline and Langella, the film stars Sigourney Weaver as the first lady and Ben Kingsley as Mitchell’s Vice President Gary Nance.

Background Viewing

(Perfect to have on while having dinner, reading etc.)

And this week I had a hard time picking just one ambient video – so here are three of them!

Have a great weekend!
