Netflix Adds Account Profiles, Apple’s Next iPad Mini Will Have Retina Display & The Top 5 Free Anti-Virus Softwares

Netflix Streaming Adds Account Profiles: Netflix has just added a new feature to its streaming account settings – the ability to add different profiles. And by “streaming,” as you may well know, I am referring not to the subscription service that has Netflix sending subscribers DVDs through the mail by the Netflix streaming service which allows subscribers unlimited access to the Netflix streaming library of titles 34/7/365 from anywhere they have an Internet connection. And what the fancy computer terminology “profiles” means is I think most simply explained by saying that up until now Netflix streaming subscribers logged into their account and had one list of favorite titles that they saved to watch later and this single list would have to do for everyone in a family so if the Jack the family patriarch loves documentaries and nine-year-old Sally Anne loves  cartoons and they have both saved their favorite videos in the favorites list to watch later – then all those videos would be jumbled together “Dora the Explorer” might be found in between National Geographic and PBS documentaries! And now with the new profiles feature five individual family members can log into the same account have their own favorites list (their own profile list) of titles so all of Sally Anne’s cartoons can be on her list, Jack’s documentaries on his list, all the scientific programs on son Tyler’s list and the dramas can all be on matriarch Jane’s list. So in essence, the streaming Netflix subscription now is like a PC – you can log in under your own profile and customize your favorites list and not see the listing of other videos you aren’t interested in!

The WSJ Reports On Apple’s iPad Mini, OLED TV Update & The C-1 A New Kind Of Car

The WSJ Reports On Apple’s New  iPad Mini: The Wall Street Journal and CNET have both reported that Apple will be introducing a smaller iPad named the iPad Mini prior to the holiday shopping season. Both reports also indicate that Apple will introduce the new iPhone and a refresh to its iPod series of music players at its September 12 press event and will hold a separate launch event for the new iPad Mini in October. The price of the new iPad Mini has not yet been released; nor in fact, has any official information about the device from Apple. However, it is reasonable to expect that the 7-8” tablet will be priced somewhere in the $200-$300 range – it will have to be to effectively compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire, Google’s Nexus 7 and Barnes & Noble’s Nook Tablet all of which are priced between $179 and $199. So if you’re toying with the idea of purchasing a tablet for yourself or as a gift this fall – you may want to wait until October!

OLED TV Update: CNET also offers a new article that updates news on the cutting edge TV technology known as OLED. OLED is an acronym for “Organic light-emitting diode” and tech reviewers that have seen these new TVs, which were showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show back in January, have said these TVs offer the clearest most vibrant picture that they have ever seen on a TV. And the CNET article, titled OLED, What We Know, really answers the question of why these new TVs will offer out of this world pictures it can be accessed at the following link:

The C-1 A New Kind Of Car: Lit Motors has introduced, and is taking reservations for, a new kind of car called the C-1. The company describes the car as “the world’s first gyroscopically-stabilized “rolling smart phone;”” and further notes that this car “combines the efficiency and freedom of a motorcycle with the safety and convenience of a car. Offering the “alternative to alternatives” on an exciting and safe platform, the C-1 transforms your daily commute into something to look forward to.” CNET’s Editor at Large Brian Cooley offers a video overview of how the car works with assistance from Lit Motors staff in a CNET Conversations video cast. I watched the video last night and the car is small, electric, toted as being very efficient to run, reasonably priced and very science fictionish in looks so if you like technology and cars you should check out the video found at the following link:

4” iPod Touch, iPad Mini & DOJ Rejects Apple’s Criticism of E-Book Anti-Trust Suit

4” iPod Touch: According PC Magazine an Asian tech manufacturer has said that Apple will be unveiling not just a new iPhone with a 4” screen in September but also will upgrade the iPod Touch which too shall have a 4” screen.

So those of us who have been waiting to upgrade our iPod Touches can plan on finally doing so this September. Here’s the link to the PG Magazine article tilted Rumor Points to 4-Inch iPod Touch Display:

iPad Mini: CNET is reporting that Apple is indeed getting ready to debut a 7” mini iPad in September. September is the month Apple usually releases iPhone and iPod Touch upgrades so September does seem like a good bet for this new product to be unveiled!

Here’s the link to the CNET article titled iPad Mini to debut in September, says analyst:

DOJ Rejects Apple & Publishers Criticism of E-Book Anti-Trust Suit: The U.S. Department of Justice has rejected criticism from Apple and seven of the largest publishers in the U.S. that argues that its E-Book anti-trust suit against Apple and those seven publishers: Random House, HarperCollins, Hachette, Simon & Schuster, Penguin, Macmillan & Pearson, is unfair and benefits the e-book seller Amazon.com. Apple and the seven publishers have argued that prior to 2010 Amazon had a monopoly in e-book sales and they state they did not collude to raise e-book prices via the so-called “Agency Model” of selling books. The DOJ rejects the criticism and counters that Apple and seven of the largest publishers in the U.S. did indeed colluded to raise e-book prices – as just after those eight companies adopted the Agency Model in 2010 e-book prices rose dramatically – seemingly overnight.
